NASHVILLE, Tenn. — March in Nashville means more than basketball. As the Southeastern Conference Tournament returns to Bridgestone Arena, thousands of fans are expected to flood downtown, turning the city into a hub of school colors, live music and nonstop activity.
The SEC Men's Basketball Tournament, typically held over five days in early March, draws fans from across the Southeast, many traveling hours to support their teams. But the event stretches far beyond the court.
Fan-focused events like SEC FanFare give visitors interactive experiences, while nearby Lower Broadway becomes a centerpiece of celebration. Bars and restaurants fill with fans wearing team gear, creating a festival-like atmosphere that lasts from morning to late night.
For Nashville businesses, the tournament provides a significant economic boost. Hotels often reach capacity, and local establishments see increased traffic throughout the week.
Even for those without game tickets, the city offers plenty to experience. From live music performances to spontaneous street celebrations, the tournament transforms downtown into a shared space for fans of all teams.
As another year of SEC basketball tips off, Nashville once again finds itself not just hosting games, but hosting a citywide event.
